Waiting for Snow

For a week now, they have been forecasting snow. It was supposed to start last night. Then, it was supposed to start this morning. It's 4pm. There is nothing new on the ground. I am still waiting. Some of you are thinking that this lady is crazy and should be sent to the loony bin. Only loons are crazy. Not me.

When was the last time you played in the snow? Not the last time you went for a walk in it, or gazed at falling snow from your window, but really played hard. Maybe it's been a while; too long. Alberta has a lot of winter. I used to lament the fact, and grumble about it. I made hot chocolate, wrapped up in a cozy blanket and warmed my cold toes. There's a better way! Aren't you glad to hear it!? It's called exercise! And you don't have to work as hard at it in winter as you do other times of the year. Why? Gear. You are wearing a lot more gear. Boots, snow pants, ski jacket, mitts and a toque. Maybe a scarf, too, if your friends are knitters :) Once you are dressed, announce loudly to anyone that can hear, "I am going outside to have fun!" It's a great start! Find a hill, slide down and climb back up! Find a friend to go with you! Got skis in the basement collecting dust? There's a chance your town has a groomed track for X-Country skiing, or it would, if it would just snow already.

If you're thinking that doesn't think sound like any fun. You're wrong. Make it a date with your husband! I bet he hasn't gone sledding in a long time, or cross country skiing, or snowshoeing. Try changing your perspective and embrace these months of chilly weather and fluffy precipitation! Bring on the snow!
